Serbia is the world’s second largest producer of plums. 2

Plums are a diverse group of species. Some of the most famous are Stenley, Cacanska i Rutgesteter. Plums are mostly consumed as fresh fruit. It is also used for making plum brandy, well known as Serbian Sljivovica which is considered as Serbian traditional spirit. In addition to that, it is also used for making jams, marmalades and for freezing.

Fruits are usually of medium size, between 1 to 3 inches in diameter, globose to oval. The flesh is firm and juicy. The fruit’s peel is smooth, with a natural waxy surface that adheres to the flesh. The plum is a drupe, meaning its fleshy fruit surrounds a single hard seed. Mature plum fruit may have a dusty-white coating that gives them a glaucous appearance.
